Kinesiotaping. What is this method?

Kinesio Taping is a technique designed to work with the body's natural healing process while providing rehabilitation support and stability to muscles and joints. It can be used to reduce pain, reduce inflammation, and relax overworked or tired muscles.

What is taping?

Kinesio Tape (Ka knee see o) is a flexible tape that supports and stabilizes joints, muscles and ligaments as they bend, contract and stretch. You may have seen athletes at sporting events wearing long strips of colored tape strategically placed at or near their joints.

Unlike bulky, elastic bandages, Kinesio Tape is not designed to restrict movement or provide rigid support.

Kinesio Tape, also known as Kinesiology Tape or Elastic Therapy Tape, boasts up to 40% elasticity. The tape is usually made of cotton and spandex with a heat-activated acrylic adhesive to hold it to the skin. In addition to taping, we offer many other massages - check it out main page.

Physiotherapists use various methods of kinesiotaping to tighten the skin and muscles. Taping can be used as a rehabilitation tool for:
  • to ease the pain
  • to reduce inflammation
  • to relax overworked muscles and joints
  • to improve sports performance
  • to stabilize the joints
  • to support the body's natural healing process

Kinesio Tape relieves joints by creating a rubber band effect that modifies movement while supporting muscles and tendons.

How long can Kinesio tape be worn?

Once the physical therapist or sports medicine provider places the tape, it can stay on the skin for as long as the adhesive works, usually two or three days.

The adhesive is strong enough to withstand permitted activities, showers and everyday movements. Of course, if the adhesive causes itching, a rash, or any other type of discomfort, the patch should be removed.

Is Kinesio tape effective?

As a standalone therapy, kinesiotaping can provide some support. However, when combined with other treatments, kinesiotaping can improve performance and speed healing. We offer kinesiotaping service in our massage salon in Warsaw – Najlepszy Masaż (Wola).

Is Kinesio Tape only for athletes?

NO. Kinesiotaping can relieve joint pain, provide support for proper form during activity, and be used to soothe and support overuse and soft tissue injuries. Physiotherapists, sports medicine specialists, and athletic trainers often use Kinesio Tape to reduce the impact and pain of:

  • muscle tension
  • pulled or inflamed tendons (tendinitis)
  • swelling (oedema)

Can Kinesio Tape Help With Performance?

Yes and no.
Some believe it gives them a competitive advantage. Others are comfortable with an extra level of support. But using Kinesio tape can also give athletes a false sense of security and allow them to push themselves beyond healthy performance limits.

Does Kinesio Taping Relieve Pain?

Possibly. It depends on the source of the pain and the person's overall health. Some people suffering from joint and muscle pain say that the patches helped, others say there was no difference.

Sports medicine providers and physical therapists use the taping technique on a case-by-case basis as a treatment option for sports-related injuries. It often takes a combination of treatments and techniques in the hands of a skilled provider to relieve pain.

When used correctly along with other treatments, Kinesio Tape can help relieve the discomfort associated with:
Plantar fasciitis
General muscle pain
Tibial splints
Knee pain
Achilles tendon pain
It's important to listen to your body. If you experience acute pain during activity or persistent aches and stiffness after activity, consult your orthopedic surgeon. Sudden pain or pain that lasts more than 24 or 48 hours needs to be examined by a bone and joint specialist.

A nice idea is to combine taping with kinesio massage and muscle testing. In our massage studio Best Massage in Wola and Żoliborz we provide all the above services. We invite you to sign up by page and by phone 733-706-432.
